    D'après un dirigeant de l'opposition, la promesse d'engagement d'un milliard de dollars faite par l'homme d'affaires Agarwal pour créer l'Université Vedenta dans l'Etat d'Orissa (sud de l'Inde) est un stratagème visant à détourner l'attention de l'opération frauduleuse d'exploitation minière conclue avec le gouvernement de cet Etat. La promesse d'engagement d'un milliard de dollars qui, si elle se concrétisait serait le don le plus généreux jamais fait à un établissement d'enseignement supérieur, a pour but de créer une université élitiste et multidisciplinaire pour 100 000 étudiants qui ouvrirait ses portes en 2008.
