    Le ministre de l’éducation veut que les universités rendent davantage compte de la façon dont elles dépensent leur argent, suite à des révélations montrant que des milliards de dollars sont redirigés de l’enseignement vers la recherche chaque année. Un rapport de l’Institut Grattan a découvert que les rapports financiers des universités concernant les 26milliards de dollars dépensés chaque année étaient très « opaques », et a conclu : « l’Australie a besoin d’un système plus transparent pour contrôler comment les universités dépensent leur argent. »

Leurs recommandations, publiées mi-avril, soulignent la « responsabilité qui incombe aux universités, en tant qu’établissements autonomes, d’informer régulièrement et correctement le public sur leurs projets de collaboration avec l’industrie ».
