Eradication of corruption is one of the most urgent and imperative tasks that must be accomplished if Korea is to become a clean and transparent society. Charged with this mission, the KICAC was created under the anti-corruption act of Korea on January 2003. To ensure the fulfillment of this mission, the commission was designed as a fully independent and political neutral entity. Its nine Commissioners are appointed by the President of Korea based on the recommendations from the President, the Supreme Court and the National Assembly. This document gives a brief overview of the KICAC. It includes: its mission statement; its major roles; its organization; its policies for evolution and institutional improvement; the code of conduct for public official, CCPO; its proceedings for handling corruption reports; its system of protection and rewards; its international cooperation; and its cooperation with other agencies.
