    La Comisión Europea quiere llamar a licitación entre ahora y finales del año para establecer un sistema europeo de clasificación educativa para las universidades. Esta clasificación, que estará disponible en 2010, plantearía una alternativa a la de Shanghái. De hecho, un estudio realizado en 2008 cuestiona esta clasificación. El objetivo de este análisis era evaluar cambios en la metodología con el fin de determinar la evolución de la clasificación final cuando hay diferencias de nivel, cuando los sistemas de agregación varían o incluso cuando no se toma en cuenta uno de los seis indicadores. Resultado: la clasificación puede variar en docenas de lugares.
