The Hanoi University of Science and Technology has introduced comprehensive regulations on academic integrity. These regulations apply to all members of the university community, including officials, civil servants, lecturers, and students. Decision 12160/QD-DHBK emphasizes the importance of respecting others' ideas, avoiding plagiarism, and adhering to ethical standards in scientific research. It prohibits the buying and selling of research results and prohibits the misuse of power or resources to gain unfair advantages in research endeavors. The university also enforces integrity standards in research and training collaborations, ensuring compliance with intellectual property rights agreements. A Scientific Integrity Advisory Council has been established to assess violations, with disciplinary actions ranging from internal sanctions to legal consequences depending on the severity of the offense.

A recent study draws attention to the disturbing trend of 'Life Experience Degree Offerings' (LEDOs) provided by diploma mills, shedding light on how these products deceive consumers. LEDOs exploit the concept of 'accreditation of prior learning' and seek to provide qualifications solely based on submitted resumes or CVs rather than genuine experience. The study reveals that despite the potential socioeconomic gains, LEDOs disregard the true value of education, using artefacts like diplomas to prioritize perceived legitimacy over the educational process itself. Additionally, the research highlights the lack of proper guidance on money laundering risks and the use of students as 'money mules.'

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made teaching and organizing online examinations a difficult task in Vietnamese universities. Examiners had to introduce various methods to deal with the increase in cheating. Students are required to attend an examination on the university's systems with supervision via Zoom and have their papers recognized if they are physically present throughout the examination. If cheating is discovered, teachers have the right to suspend students.

A former director and two former deputy directors of Dong Do University in Vietnam were prosecuted for issuing hundreds of fake degrees and illegally earning more than US$310,000. The indictment also points out that the Ministry of Education and Training failed to carry out its responsibilities in monitoring the implementation of regulations on university enrolment and training.

Two Ho Chi Min City university academics have lost their positions after they were found plagiarising content from an international peer-reviewed journal. They confessed that for one of their published articles, they had translated 80% of the original article without getting the author’s permission or citing his work as the source.

There is a massive fraud going on in Vietnam with education agents charging $5,000-10,000 upfront from the families for scholarships to US institutions. Larger agencies are more specialized in helping students gain admission to “highly selective colleges and universities”, with packages that include assistance with writing essays, completing them on behalf of students and other services, including creating extracurricular activities that their clients can add to their application.

With more universities and offices requiring English qualifications from graduates, students are turning to hiring other people to sit their English exams. The police in HCM City's Thu Duc District are investigating a case in which 34 students at the HCM City University of Agriculture and Forestry hired impersonators for their English exams. Last year, 10 impersonators were uncovered. Meanwhile, universities which require students take TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS tests as English graduation exams have received a number of fake certificates.
