The Democracy Education Centre (DEMO) launched the Check My Service initiative in 2012 to assess the transparency and accountability of public services using a Community Scorecard tool. DEMO signs Memoranda of Understanding with service providers to confirm commitments. Citizens can register a complaint about a service and have the service provider respond and take action. Since its inception, DEMO has implemented a number of these initiatives such as Check My School, Check My Hospital, Check My Water Well and others. The Check My Service initiative was selected by the Open Government Partnership (OGP) as one of the best innovations in the Asia-Pacific region in 2014 and 2016, and received an OGP Global Award in 2016.
