In rural Cameroon, government budget allocations and expenditures are still hidden from public view. Focal Integrity Team of Cameroon (FITCAM) managed to convince public officials to disclose information of public interest to community organizations. They then supported citizens in holding authorities to account on local education projects in the Fako Division of Buea, in South West Cameroon. After exposing the corrupt practices of contractors, the Ministry of Public Contracts declared savings of 5,342, 765 CFA (approximately $5,980) through renegotiating contracts relating to a number of projects.

After years of piling up paper files, the Education Service Commission (ESC) will soon phase out its manual operations and demand that applicants for a job in the sector resort to electronic applications. The move to electronic means will ease the commission's ability to detect forgeries in applications and employment records.

Tanzania is preparing an Open Data Policy that will guide the country on how to obtain and use data, according to the President. The policy, which is expected to be in place in six months, will develop procedures to identify the government's open data, an institutional framework for open data management, a single window and where the public can access data. Procedures for uploading and updating data will also be defined.

Uganda joins the rest of Africa to mark the Africa Public Service Day, an annual event that recognizes value and virtue of service to the community. The objective is to raise the image of public service, thus enhance trust in government, collect, document and share best practices for possible replication within a country as well as across the African Continent.

Kampala. The procurement of big ticket and small projects from government is set for a complete overhaul as the service goes online. The Public Procurement Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA), will launch the eGovernment Procurement portal, a web-based system that will see a migration away from the hand delivery of bids to government agencies.
