South Africa
EOL grantee: Integrity Icon
This initiative, developed by Accountability Lab, allows users to nominate and vote for honest government officials, including teachers, who demonstrate integrity and ethical behaviour in their work. By highlighting positive examples of behaviour, the website aims to incentivise good behaviour and discourage corruption. Typically, citizens nominate public officials who they believe have demonstrated exceptional integrity, and an independent body or organisation selects the winners based on these nominations. Integrity Icon often uses various forms of media, such as documentaries, social media campaigns and events, to showcase the stories and achievements of these individuals, with the aim of inspiring others to uphold similar standards of integrity in public service.

EOL grantee: Vulekamali
Launched in 2018, Vulekamali is an online budget portal that helps citizens understand South Africa's finances in a simple way. The portal aims to provide users (activists, oversight actors, learners, teachers, parents etc) with clear, credible planning, spending and performance relating to the delivery of public education services at national and subnational levels. It features spatial data that allows a view of budget-related information at national, provincial, public entity and municipality levels across sectors, by economic classification.
