Follow the Money
Follow the Money empowers stakeholders to track education funding, advocate for equitable resource allocation, and hold the Government accountable for the effective and efficient use of public funds in the education sector. By providing citizens with access to information and advocacy tools, it contributes to efforts to improve the quality and equity of education. Launched in Nigeria in 2012, the initiative has expanded its reach to 10 countries across Africa. Follow the Money primarily uses social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram, as well as the use of data visualisation techniques and advocacy to raise awareness and put pressure on the Government to improve its accountability in areas such as education, health, gender, water, sanitation and the environment. The core of the project remains the monitoring of school construction and rehabilitation projects, but it also includes a digital platform with information on monitoring government spending and international aid.
