Academic fraud has consequences for students and society in general. According to one professor, the subject of corruption has been a big debate for many years in Cuba, but that forms of corruption evolve as the means of change.

While corruption hampers all development efforts, it is a debilitating presence in the education sector. Teacher absenteeism is one of the most serious forms of corruption in education. While there are many valid reasons for a teacher to be away from the classroom, some absences are clearly illegitimate.

The Hauts-de-France Regional Council has set up the Participatory Budget for Upper Secondary Schools (BPL) to improve living and studying conditions for students in their schools. This project is part of a participatory democracy approach, in which it is the pupils themselves who are involved in the equipment and renovation projects for their lycée. 

The nation will make the battle against corruption part of the high school curriculum in the 2013-14 academic year, starting in September, after it was piloted for three years in accordance with a government decision issued in late 2009.
