    School placement corruption: abolish protocol list system

    The Ghana Integrity Initiative has called for the removal of the protocol list system in secondary schools under the Computerized School Selection and Placement System. A new documentary entitled “School Placement for sale” shows parents, guardians, and officials in charge of placement allegedly making “deals” to secure places for students. Some parents paid GHS20,000 to get their children into placed schools while others paid GHS8,500 for preferred schools.

    The "La Escuela es Nuestra" program was launched in 2019 as an initiative of the Federal Government in Mexico with the overall aim of improving the infrastructure and equipment of public basic education schools. The project focuses on promoting participatory management, with parents and pupils. The golas of this program are to foster citizen responsibility, prevent corruption in school budget management, and promote the values of integrity.

    On 9 and 10 October 2019, IIEP participated in the Regional Consultation on teaching standards organized by the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030. The purpose of this consultation was for key education stakeholders to review and comment on an “international guidance framework for elaborating national or regional teaching standards to support countries in stepping up their progress on increasing the supply of qualified teachers”.
