The Tanzania Higher Learning Institutions Students’ Organisation (TAHLISO) has warned that fraudulent education agents are sending Tanzanian students to unaccredited universities abroad. TAHLISO’s secretary general called for stronger oversight from education authorities. Reports highlighted the case of a student who lost TZS8 million to such scams. Experts criticize the inadequate monitoring of these agents requesting for collaboration between government, educational institutions, and international bodies to protect students.

Several reports revealed that a Jalandhar-based study abroad company filed around 700 fraudulent student visa applications between 2018 and 2022. After completing their courses and fulfilling work requirements, the students applied for permanent residency in Canada and submitted supporting documents. The Canadian Border Security Agency examined the documents based on which the visas were granted to the students and discovered that the letters of admission were false. The Government is investigating reports of fraudulent admission letters.

Questions about cheating are raised over the abnormal growth curve in exam results. 173,000 high school students have been admitted to universities at C+ level and above in 2022 compared to 145 in 2021 in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations. The CNEMEP has announced legal and administrative procedures against the parties involved. If necessary, the exam will be repeated to give all applicants equal opportunities and protect the reputation of the faculty.

Pusan National University announced the decision to revoke the 2015 admission of the former justice minister’s daughter to its medical school because her parents doctored her credentials. The admission regulations stipulate that applicants cannot be admitted if their documentation is false, and it can be cancelled even decades after graduation if fraud is discovered.

Cameroon’s Minister of Higher Education revealed that the private American University in Central Africa, recruiting students for its programmes is a clandestine university. In 2020, the Minister ordered the African Regional Training Centre for Labour Administration, the Pan African Institute for Development and the Bamenda University Institute of Science and Technology to desist from awarding Bachelor’s degrees and suspend all Master's and Doctorate programmes for non-compliance with the conditions of the accreditation granted to them.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) announced that the supplementary fees for security guards at schools are entirely voluntary. However, schools preventing children from attending class because their parents have not made such payments will be punished by the Law. The MoE also reported corruptions scandals in the Southern province of Inhambane, such as the sale of fake certificates or the rigging of examination marks for the Teachers Training Centre admission charged 780 US dollars.
