The government has uncovered a total of 65,198 ghost students in primary and secondary schools across the country, thus saving 931.3m ‒ which would have been allocated for the phantom students for 2016/2017 fiscal year. The Minister of State, President's Office, Regional Administration and Local Government said that out of 65,198 non-existing students, 52,783 have been framed in primary schools and 12,415 in secondary schools.

A leaked report has revealed “extreme” government concern after an academy trust was found to have paid its chief executive more than £82,000 for 15 weeks’ work. The investigation, which took place over June and July this year, also found that Wakefield City Academy were unable to produce the list of students receiving pupil premium payments (additional funding to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils in schools).

The Rukwa Region has identified 2,408 students from public primary and secondary schools as ghost students following the recent verifications. The Rukwa Region Commissioner (RC), briefed the Prime Minister from the regional development reports in Namanyere Town , Nkasi District. The premier was further told that Rukwa Region continued to put into action the directives of the President by undertaking thorough verification of phantom students in all public primary and secondary schools in the region.

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has ended the first phase of establishing Student Integrity Clubs in Liberian Schools. The project is being sponsored by the UNDP under its STAOP Project. The first phase of the project targeted several high schools with the project expected to be extended to schools throughout the country. The initiative by the LACC and the Ministry of Education to establish Student Integrity Clubs is aimed at providing and sharing corruption information among students as future leaders of Liberia.
