The Department of Basic Education has finalised the terms of reference for the task team that will investigate allegations of selling of posts within the sector. The names of the task team members will be announced once the proposed list has been gazetted. Basic Education Minister established the task team after recent media reports alleging that some posts in the education sector were sold for cash.

Alberta's auditor-general says Medicine Hat College's international education division has been an out-of-control programme that has put the college at "reputational, legal and financial risk". The Auditor-Generals report released last Tuesday shows a record of irregular contracts, questionable expenses and dubious academic standards for the C$1.7-million programme, which focuses on attracting foreign students from multiple countries, and works in partnership with three Chinese institutions, to offer courses overseas for Chinese students who can then transfer to Medicine Hat College.

The education sector is riddled with most instances of public corruption and irregularities in Uttar Pradesh, in the state Lok Ayukta. The irregularities relate to the alleged encroachment on the forest Gram Sabha Land and siphoning off local area development (LAD) funds by politicians. Locals are demanding a probe into the allegations.

The scale of an alleged "ghost teacher" scam discovered at the Ministry of Education in late 2011 has ballooned, with the first court appearance of eight suspects following their arrest by the Anti-Corruption Commission. The Ministry was allegedly defrauded when the names of people not employed with it were registered on the Ministry's payroll.

Former inspector general of the Ministry of Education and Culture has been accused of embezzling travel funds. The former inspector general will be attending the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in Jakarta.

The country's Anti-Corruption Commission is investigating the current Higher Education Minister after a number of graft accusations, and the Zimbabwe National Students Union, ZINASU, said he should resign or be fired by the President on the grounds that he was unfit to hold the portfolio.
