The government has uncovered a total of 65,198 ghost students in primary and secondary schools across the country, thus saving 931.3m ‒ which would have been allocated for the phantom students for 2016/2017 fiscal year. The Minister of State, President's Office, Regional Administration and Local Government said that out of 65,198 non-existing students, 52,783 have been framed in primary schools and 12,415 in secondary schools.

The report focuses on the discovery of thousands of ghost teachers and pupils in Columbia, which came to light during the annual audit by the Ministry of Education. This state audit was carried out in 36,000 education secretariats across the country. 

Breaking the silence over corruption in education is a mammoth ongoing task which needs a global united front in order to ensure that education goals are met and that children receive the best possible opportunities when learning.

Teachers working in non-existent schools and in municipalities that could not be found on the map, non-existent educational centers, communities that could not be located, and teachers working in two regions. These were some of the irregularities that were revealed by statistics provided by the Registry of the Teaching Profession of the Education Secretariat.

The Sindh Education Minister says that there are 7,700 ghost schools in the province. There is, however, finally some good news regarding this issue: on April 5, 2009 the miscreants who had occupied the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto School at Goth Qaim Kharrul of the Dadu district decided to move out. However, arithmetic tells us that if we continue at this rate, it will take us 7,700 more years to eliminate all of them! And that's only in our province - according to our estimations, there are around 25,000 ghost schools in the country.

The Education Minister of Sierra Leone ordered a countrywide verification exercise. Many schools, and teachers, actually registered simply do not exist. According to him : "If you take into consideration the subsidies we pay for these non-existent schools, non-existent teachers and inflated roster of pupils, then it is easy to surmise that the government loses tens of thousands of dollars, every month." He accuses officials in his own department of collusion with their counterparts in the Finance Ministry.
