Police are investigating the accused for criminal breach of trust, dishonest misappropriation of property and forgery for cheating purposes. Due to his lack of cooperation in the commission's proceedings, he was suspended from his role.

    According to the National Examinations Board, there are many irregularities in the high school exam system in Kathmandu. While students, officials, and school administrators try to rig exams to suit their interests, guardians also use their influence to help their children cheat. The higher the pass percentage, the more the students are being enrolled the following year. Educationists and administrators alike say systemic failures have led to the perpetuation of exam rigging in Nepal, however, policy or procedural reforms might not work unless there is a change in the mindset of the people.

    Haryana higher education council chairperson booked for corruption

    The police accused of corruption and cheating the chairperson in the Haryana State Higher Education, an autonomous body created to promote academic excellence in the state. The main allegations against him include the appointment of staff in the university against the norms, opening of new educational centres, which were not required, extending favouritism, illegal withdrawal of university funds and spending the same on family’s personal expenses by misusing his official position.

    IIEP has trained more than 2,200 people in the area of transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption measures in education since 2003. From 4 to 6 October 2018, the Institute joined forces with NEPC to offer a new course on this topic in Tbilisi for country teams from Azerbaijan, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Moldova, and Mongolia.

    A recent report by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has unearthed the rot in many of Nigeria’s higher institutions, highlighting an intricate collusion among staff, students and other stakeholders. In the report titled, ‘Stealing the future: How federal universities in Nigeria have been stripped apart by corruption’, SERAP claimed that many allegations of corruption in federal universities – such as unfair allocation of grades; contract inflation; truncation of staff’s salary on the payroll; employment of unqualified staff; examination malpractice; sexual harassment; and issuance of results for expelled student to graduate have not been thoroughly investigated.
