The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) and the Drug Control and Enforcement Authority (DCEA) recently united to combat corruption and drug abuse in educational institutions. They signed a pact titled "Eliminate Corruption and Illicit Drugs in Schools and Higher Learning Institutions" in Dodoma. The Memorandum focuses on exchanging information to prevent these vices and aims to discourage youth involvement in corruption and drug abuse. The PCCB has established 7,000 anti-corruption clubs across schools and higher learning institutions in the country.

A study emphasizes the need for AI ethical charters in academic settings, aiming to ensure responsible and fair AI applications across research, teaching, and learning domains. Key voices highlighted the importance of such charters in promoting responsible AI use, transparency, accountability, and the mitigation of biases or ethical concerns. However, some academics underscored that implementing a charter alone might not suffice, emphasizing the need to integrate ethical values into foundational teaching.

Two secondary schools that debated the theme "Students are essential in the fight against corruption" have been rewarded by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Through integrity clubs organized in schools, the EFCC aims to instil the values of hard work, integrity, probity and responsibility, and to encourage young students to start fighting corruption at its roots.

In collaboration with the UNODC and UNESCO, the Agence de prévention et de lutte contre la corruption (APLC) has organised integrity training for teacher trainers in nursery, primary, secondary, and vocational education. As the leading national authority in the fight against corruption, the APLC aims to take far-reaching action and provide concrete responses through the development of a prevention strategy designed to curb this scourge.

The council of Stellenbosch University in South Africa has appointed a three-person committee to investigate allegations of nepotism against the vice-chancellor. A motion to remove him from office, in accordance with the university's statutes, has also been confirmed. The committee will investigate the facts underlying the motion, including allegations of nepotism and a possible breach of rules concerning the Vice-Chancellor’s discretionary placement of family members within the University.

The Ministry of Education has suspended the recruitment and transfer of new staff in all government schools until a national public service payroll audit is completed. Teachers will have to be physically verified by the office of the Auditor General and those absent will not be counted. The Education Service Commission said that in October 2022 the government payroll had over 1, 000 ghost teachers.

The Karnataka Education Department has standardized and automatized the process of registering a new school. The norms of the new system involve uploading the relevant documents on the Education Department's website. The district office will check the documents within a specific timeframe and schools will then be inspected by electronic sampling. If all the conditions are met, a certificate will be issued. To increase transparency and guarantee quality control of schools, all processes on the Student Achievement Tracking System will also be made available online.

The professor of education at Stellenbosch University and the President of the Academy of Science in South Africa highlights the extent of corruption in South African universities. He emphasizes that university councils which function similarly to boards in other entities, are often used for partisan politics. In that way, it appears that dealing with corruption at universities is depoliticizing the council and letting it be run by professionals.
