In the most remote regions of Pakistan, the education of young children is problematic. Due to a lack of resources, many schools have been abandoned and teachers, inadequately paid by a failing government, are not coming to teach. Thousands, if not millions, of children are deprived of an education and left to fend for themselves.

In a case that has rocked the academic community in Taiwan and put many scientific research projects in jeopardy, 22 professors at some of the country's top universities – including the prestigious National Taiwan University – have been charged with using false receipts to claim reimbursements out of research funds.

The Zimbabwean President has financed a military university, utilizing profits from diamond mines, many of which have been accused of human right infringements. The university will only be open to high ranking military members. Many have dubbed this step as an effort by the President to strengthen his position within the military.

A number of universities have been falsifying graduate employment data to raise funds and attract students, according to a government investigation. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced that 28 universities across the country falsely reported the employment rate for their graduates.

Bar-Ilan University was fined by the Council of Higher Education for admitting students without bachelor's degrees to graduate programs. The panel ruled that Bar-Ilan will be responsible for financing the undergraduate degrees of students who were enrolled in violation of the Council of Higher Education's guidelines.

Corruption, funding shortages and an obsession with profit are plaguing the quality of university education in Cambodia, students say, driving them overseas in search of masters and PhD programmes.
