33 youths from South-East Asia gathered in January at the first ever International Youth Camp on Youth Empowerment for Transparency and Integrity (YETI) in Cambodia, to learn and exchange on the negative impact of corruption in their countries and across the region, and brainstorm how they could combat the scourge together. The event sought to enhance the young participants’ sense of belonging to a community, inspire them to stand up to corruption and equip them with the tools to do so.

For Dutch Youth Representative for UNESCO, education has to come to the forefront of the development debate. He states that the implementation and effectiveness of many education programmes is hampered by corruption, and that young people can play a vital role in combatting this.

The Director General of Transparency International Africa talks about the fight against corruption in schools. She looks more specifically at the situation in Côte d'Ivoire, and the extent of "endemic corruption". In her view, the responsibility for fighting corruption lies with all citizens, and governments have a responsibility to give young people the space to act.
