With more universities and offices requiring English qualifications from graduates, students are turning to hiring other people to sit their English exams. The police in HCM City's Thu Duc District are investigating a case in which 34 students at the HCM City University of Agriculture and Forestry hired impersonators for their English exams. Last year, 10 impersonators were uncovered. Meanwhile, universities which require students take TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS tests as English graduation exams have received a number of fake certificates.

Pretoria – A task team has been set up to investigate how a Life Sciences matric exam paper was leaked in Limpopo, the Basic Education Minister announced on Tuesday. The task team will be charged with establishing the source of the security breach as well as the spread of the access to the question paper. Among the possible outcomes of the scale of the leak is that learners at the affected school could be asked to rewrite the exam.

The Mozambican Minister of Education declared “zero tolerance” of academic fraud in reaction to the latest cheating scandal concerning the 12th grade extraordinary examinations held in August. About 3,000 schoolteachers in Bihar, who allegedly used fake degree certificates to get jobs, have resigned till date apprehending legal action. Earlier, the state government admitted that it recruited more than 300,000 contract teachers without verifying their educational and professional degrees. The petitioner of the probe said he has collected documents as evidence through Right to Information queries to prove that thousands of teachers used forged degrees to get jobs.

A senior US official has called for independent verification of Afghan government figures on the use of US education aid following claims by Afghan ministers that the previous government had provided data on US-funded school and higher education projects that were flawed, tempered and exaggerated, and had interfered with university entrance exams. These allegations suggest the existence of ghost schools and teachers that are being paid for with US aid money.

The National Police say more complaints have been lodged against higher education institutions that are alleged to have issued fake degrees since the Research and Technology and Higher Education Ministry filed a report against one such institution last month. The National Police’s detective division chief said that they were currently looking into reports from the Medan Police in North Sumatra which targeted the University of North Sumatra.

Research and technology and higher education minister said that he would soon publish the names of universities that were alleged to have issued fake diplomas. He said that he had set up a special team to investigate the case and would carry out impromptu visits to the suspected universities in the near future.
