The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) sanctioned 13 Secondary Schools in Gombe State over cases of examination malpractice. From 2018 to 2020, seven public secondary schools were found to be involved in exam malpractice. In 2022, the Ministry received a fresh set of six schools that committed the same offence, and they were also de-recognised with a penalty of N500,000 per school payable to WAEC. According to WAEC director, the threat of examination malpractice had a negative impact on students' performance in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations result: with an overall average of 55.6% in 2022 compared to 79.5 per cent in 2021.

The cases of corruption in the education sector in Oyo State are ranging from reports of school administrators collecting money, students sitting mock exams, officials asking for grants from principals before distributing the school materials the government purchased for students to receiving money from teachers to deploy them to preferred areas. The governor announced that dismissal and prosecution awaited anyone who sabotaged government efforts through corrupt practices.

According to the New York City Councilman, teachers have been forced to pass students who do not do well on exams or who do not even show up to class regularly. Evidence of cheating and intimidation from principals was shared with the Department of Education and the U.S. Attorney's Office.

A junior college administrator apologized to district officials for trying to use the unusual anti-cheating technique: students wearing boxes, cut open on one side, to prevent them from being able to copy other people's work. Exam malpractice is a highly organized "industry" between school proprietors, officials of the State Ministry of Education, officials of West African School Certificate examination, invigilators, machineries and the students themselves. According to a study, this is a result of poor implementation of examination rules, no fear of punishment, inadequate preparation for the exams, the disloyalty of examination body staff and students and parental threats. Many parents prefer to bribe the examiner rather than pay for extra lessons for their child, which may still not result in examination success.

Against the backdrop of the recent closure of Nodos International School, Ojo, by the Lagos State government over alleged involvement in examination malpractices during a national Examinations Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations, the Principal of the school has been relieved of his job. Okafor also stated that all the teaching staff that were also found complicit in the examinations malpractices that led to the closure of the school have also been asked to resign their appointments.

About 350 public school teachers and 11 principals with fake documents have been exposed, according to the Montserrado County Education Officer. Many Liberians have attributed the poor standard of the country’s educational system to its infiltration by unqualified individuals.

Thirty-five former school officials have been implicated in a test cheating scandal, and have been given a deadline to surrender to authorities in the state of Georgia. The accused in the city of Atlanta face counts of racketeering, making false statements and conspiring to improve test scores to win cash bonuses.

Malindi's deputy District Education Officer has asked head teachers to ensure that students complete the syllabus in time. He said failure by teachers to complete the syllabus early hurts the students' performance in national exams. She said completing the syllabus in time will encourage good performance and curb any irregularities in the exam.
