An associate dean of academic services spends a lot of time studying, lamenting and worrying about cheating in universities, but a Montreal-based online service that propels the activity to a new level made even her wince. The website unemployedprofessors.com has teachers writing papers for students. "So you can play while we make your papers go away" is its tag line.

Striking a blow at a Silicon Valley school that attracted foreigners with student visas, federal agents raided Sunnyvale's Herguan University and charged its CEO with visa fraud. The charges come a year after an investigation found Herguan was among a group of Bay Area schools that misrepresented information on federal applications, which allowed them to sponsor overseas students for coveted visas.

A Chinese Professor has been fired by his university and disqualified from China's Recruitment Program of Global Experts for copying his resume and academic articles from three other academics with the same name. The 39 year-old professor with the Beijing University of Chemical Technology has admitted falsifying his educational background, work experience and published articles by copying the details from overseas professors.

A number of universities have been falsifying graduate employment data to raise funds and attract students, according to a government investigation. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced that 28 universities across the country falsely reported the employment rate for their graduates.

A seven-month investigation revealed that a number of Chile's universities are illegally operating as profit-oriented businesses. Staff members at the University of Namibia (Unam) say they live in constant fear of victimization and threats by those in management positions who are running the institution in an autocratic manner. "A climate of fear is preventing open and transparent debate on day-to-day issues". They further accused the management of not following fair and transparent measures in the selection and appointment of all management positions at the end of last year.

Investigations into alleged misuse of Dutch government funds at Uganda's main university are deepening. The vice chancellor of Kampala's Makerere University is being questioned about 810,000 euros reported missing. And it's not the first time the top academic administrator is quizzed about where money has gone.

A website called Notinmycountry.org targets the corruption faced by students in Uganda. The secured site enables students to report acts of corruption by individuals at universities anonymously using a randomly generated username that cannot be linked to the user.

The findings of visitation panels to federal universities in Nigeria have been released, along with a white paper responding to them. The reports have accused leaders and councils in most of the 26 universities of abusing autonomy, and some vice-chancellors may lose their jobs for deliberately flouting university statutes.
