    Education minister sets up panel to probe TET fraud

    Maharashtra State Council of Examination Commissioner and two other accomplices were arrested for alleged involvement in malpractices in the Teachers Eligibility Test. The fraud committed was worth Rs 4.25 crore, and the candidates were asked to pay Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh for passing the exam. A committee headed by Education Chief Secretary has been constituted to thoroughly investigate the case.

    A study by Transparency International Bangladesh found secondary-level education activities, including recruitment of teachers and inclusion in the monthly pay order, plagued with widespread corruption and irregularities. To be appointed as assistant headmaster or headmaster, one needs to pay Tk 5,000 - 1 lakh bribe or Tk 3.5-15 lakh to be included in the monthly pay order. The study also found a lack of accountability in different administrative works of education officials who did not attend office in time and regularly.

    Exam fraud mastermind jailed for abuse of power

    The Court convicted officials of the Ministry of Education and Public Security for involvement in fraud over the 2018 high school national exams, where over 200 students from three northern provinces of Hoa Binh, had their results modified in the high school exam. Two other people were jailed for paying bribes to alter exam scores. After the fraud was exposed, dozens of students dropped out of top universities and others were expelled after their marks were corrected.

While students, officials, and school administrators try to rig exams to suit their interests, guardians also use their influence to help their children cheat. The higher the pass percentage, the more the students are being enrolled the following year. Educationists and administrators alike say systemic failures have led to the perpetuation of exam rigging in Nepal, however, policy or procedural reforms might not work unless there is a change in the mindset of the people.

    District Education Officers asked to take action against ghost teachers

He directed them to submit details of all the closed and inactive schools.     A Guwahati-based private company employee paid Rs 80,000 to a relative of his who works in the Directorate of Elementary Education to get his wife transferred to Guwahati. On the other hand, a female lower primary school teacher who holds a permanent job and works in a different school has been tired of applying for her transfer to Guwahati for the last five years through the legal process while her transfer remains pending. According to a secondary school teacher, any transfer request is processed in Guwahati only after paying bribes.

    Chinese high school students lose student registration overnight, revealing education system corruption

    Fenglan School violated regulations and used false advertising to enroll more students than its legal capacity. 400 students were found to be “missing” in the local student registration system. According to a student, the school asked them to sign an agreement saying that students would take the standardized exam as a local teenage resident not associated with the school. As a result, the students would not obtain graduation nor take the college admission exam. Some private schools would also bribe local education officials in order to obtain student registration for these unqualified students.
