The quality of education in Pakistan is extremely poor by world standards. Children study the same books as their parents did, or probably their grandparents. In Sindh, students who don't sit exams end up passing them. In Lahore, at the main examination centres located next to the board office, bribing and cheating are common practices. Professors are absent from classes and concentrate on maintaining their relations with influential individuals. Examination staff close the examination rooms to those who refuse to abide by the routine.

The deteriorating situation in South Waziristan’s education system demands urgent measures. A teacher from the Servaki division revealed that funds allocated for the construction of washrooms and play areas have vanished, benefiting only the office administration and school owners. Moreover, it has become a trend for school owners to extort money from teachers, often amounting to 1000 to 12000 rupees per teacher per month. Teachers who refuse to comply with such demands are subjected to false reports filed against them, resulting in inquiries initiated by the District Education Office.

Relying solely on a code of ethics for teachers may not be sufficient to combat violence, as a cultural reform within the educational system is required. This reform should include the participation of psychologists and counselors, in collaboration with various educational sectors. 

In collaboration with the UNODC and UNESCO, the Agence de prévention et de lutte contre la corruption (APLC) has organised integrity training for teacher trainers in nursery, primary, secondary, and vocational education. As the leading national authority in the fight against corruption, the APLC aims to take far-reaching action and provide concrete responses through the development of a prevention strategy designed to curb this scourge.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested five Education Department officials for committing irregularities and misappropriation in safeguarding official records relating to the recruitment of 9,998 posts in 2007. The fraud came to light following complaints that many candidates had submitted bogus documents, including fake experience certificates. The officials were arrested while the investigation is still underway.

The Minister of Education has presented a code of ethics to improve the relationship between students and teachers and school employees.  The aim is to ensure that this relationship is strictly academic and of formative service, and to prohibit any type of treatment that does not contribute to the integral development of students. 

The Ministry of Education has suspended the recruitment and transfer of new staff in all government schools until a national public service payroll audit is completed. Teachers will have to be physically verified by the office of the Auditor General and those absent will not be counted. The Education Service Commission said that in October 2022 the government payroll had over 1, 000 ghost teachers.

Thousands of KwaZulu-Natal children have been forced to go to school on an empty stomach. This comes after the collapse of the KZN National School Nutrition Programme due to tender irregularities and corruption. The provincial Department of Education is yet to provide information regarding this issue.

The Karnataka Education Department has standardized and automatized the process of registering a new school. The norms of the new system involve uploading the relevant documents on the Education Department's website. The district office will check the documents within a specific timeframe and schools will then be inspected by electronic sampling. If all the conditions are met, a certificate will be issued. To increase transparency and guarantee quality control of schools, all processes on the Student Achievement Tracking System will also be made available online.

A teacher working for a school in Pune approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) complaining that two accounting officers of the state education department demanded a bribe of Rs 6,000 from him to verify documents relating to wage fixation under the Sixth and Seventh Pay Commission scheme. The ACB arrested them, and a first information report was registered under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
