The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development has told Parliament that he is not aware of any fund embezzlement at the Botswana Society for the Deaf in Francistown. Answering a parliamentary question on March 25, he said his ministry had in the past three years given the Botswana Society for the Deaf subvention amounting to P3 917 411.65.

The Higher Education Board (YÖK) has launched an inquiry into allegations that about 450 students, most of whom are relatives of senior Justice and Development Party (AK Party) figures, were enrolled at Istanbul University's open and distance education faculty (AUZEF) even though they did not meet the enrollment criteria. All high school graduates have to pass the YGS and the LYS in order to be admitted to universities in Turkey.

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) today launched the corruption risks report in the education sector in Liberia. The report highlights the serious nature of corruption in the education sector in Liberia, especially Montserrado County where the study was done. The study revealed that 36 percent of students pay bribes for grades, while 27 percent pay bribes for promotion to higher grades and 23 percent pay bribes for exams.

The Medical Council of India has asked state counsels to investigate the problem of “ghost” teachers in medical colleges following the discovery of more than 400 fake teachers in four colleges in three states. These “ghost teachers” are registered as faculty members drawing a hefty salary, but have never taken a single class. Most of them run private clinics, and only attend the college when there is an impending medical inspection.

According to the 2013 Auditor General's report, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology failed to follow procurement rules in the year under review, thus violating the National Public Procurement Authority Act 2004. A doctoral student in higher education at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, conducted a sociological research about corruption in higher education. Based on his examination of the 2009 Illinois admissions scandal, which centered on the university’s use of a separate, hidden admissions process to ease the entry of applicants with ties to politicians, donors, and university officials, his paper concludes that administrative misconduct frequently is "an organizational problem that demands organizational solutions."
