Episode 7: Participatory educational planning with civil society organizations

Civil society organizations (CSOs) play an important role in keeping the focus on those who will be most impacted by educational plans and policies, particularly girls, those living in remote areas and other vulnerable groups. They also actively contribute to the policy and planning cycle through advocacy, participation in local education groups and the review of sector and related action plans. In this episode of PlanED, we hear from Alfreda Foboi-Nmah from the CSO Helping Our People Excel in Liberia, and Ram Gaire from the National Campaign for Education Nepal – a network of nearly 500 organizations – on why CSO participation is critical and how their place in planning can be safeguarded. Muriel Poisson, Team leader for Knowledge Generation and Mobilization at IIEP-UNESCO also shares insights on the value of planning with CSOs.

In this episode of PlanED, we hear about examples from Bangladesh with Syeed Ahamed, the founder of e!quality, which aims to strengthen social accountability. Alessandro Bellantoni, Director of Policy and Partnerships for the Open Government Partnership (OGP), discusses what open government can do for people, highlighting some recent examples, challenges, and thoughts on the future. Technology is facilitating new ways of tracking the implementation of education budgets and policies and promoting accountability. From mobile apps that monitor school meals to AI-driven teacher allocation, information and communication technologies (ICTs) are giving citizens new tools to ensure transparency in education. In this episode of PlanED, we explore how civil society organizations are leveraging digital platforms to fight corruption, improve school services, and empower citizens. Emma Cardoso, the Programme lead and chief of the party of the Civil Society Learning and Training Center in Mozambique, shares the experience of the Olavula platform, and Muriel Poisson, Team leader for Knowledge Generation and Mobilization at IIEP-UNESCO shares findings from a mapping of ICT use by civil society organizations belonging to EOL network.
