The OECD Council approved the Principles for Enhancing Integrity in Public Procurement in the form of an OECD Recommendation on 16 October, 2008 with the OECD Secretary General Angel Gurria emphasising the importance of the Recommendation. The Recommendation demonstrates the political commitment of OECD countries to tackle risks of waste, fraud and corruption in the whole procurement cycle, from needs assessment to contract management and payment. The Recommendation will also be a key instrument for policy dialogue between OECD countries, and with non-member countries. In 2011 OECD countries will report on progress made in implementing the recommendation.
